Boerboel

Boerboels are formidable guardians, historically bred to protect remote South African homesteads from dangerous predators. Standing at around 25 inches tall and weighing up to 175 pounds, these dogs possess a broad, blocky head, powerful jaws, and a sleek, muscular build that showcases their lineage from the ancient 'molloser' dogs, the ancestors of today's mastiff breeds. Despite their imposing appearance, Boerboels are serene, clever, and self-assured, making them excellent protectors and companions.

Their agile movement sets them apart from other mastiff types, and their dominant yet trainable nature requires early training and socialization to prevent them from becoming overly dominant adults. Boerboels are bright and eager learners, thriving on mental stimulation and regular interaction with their loved ones.

With their unwavering loyalty and affectionate demeanor towards family members, they score high on family affection. However, their strong protective instincts and substantial size mean they may not be suitable for novice dog owners.

This breed's smooth, straight coat is easy to maintain, and while they shed moderately, their grooming needs are relatively low. Boerboels are moderately adaptable, somewhat sociable with other dogs, and have a balanced level of activity and vocalization.
